Mice

update: I didn't like the LO as it was and decided to tweak things a little bit. (first version, below)

**yes!!! That is a photo of my cat Willow with a MOUSE IN HER MOUTH!** I just finished my submission to the October challenge at Category Stories. The challenge was to do a layout about "something that makes your skin creep and crawl!" Journaling: "I'm AFRAiD of Mice -- Mice never scared me before but the last mouse that Willow grabbed had me completely freaked out. The pictures are wild but I made Chris 'deal' with getting the mouse away from Willow and out of the house. ...They're so little, and fast, and that little rodent tail...gross. Oct. 2007" (my camera is broken, so these pics are especially bad.

Pesto Pizza & other things

The other night we made pesto pizza, drank champagne, and ate chocolate cupcakes for someone's 30th b-day. I soooo need to find myself a younger man. Here's an assortment of pics from the last week:

Birthday Cheers

Spent a very nice weekend in Queens celebrating this lovely lady's 60th birthday. Over the last 5 or so years, I have been to quite a few functions with this family and they are hysterical. I always seem to go to sleep with my cheeks hurting after these parties. Too much smiling and laughing!

Red Velvet Kit Album Cover

Last month I received an album-cover kit from the Red Velvet Kit Club, called "My Soft Landing Place," (designed by Jacqueline Yeo).

While I love papery crafts, and tried my hand at knitting last year, I don't sew or even own a sewing machine, but I thought I'd stitch the cover together by hand. Very slowly, as it turns out. I sewed a house here and a button there, each night for a week. And I followed pattern to the tee (figuring this was not the time for me to get creative on my own)!

To be honest, I had a hard time figuring out the directions and made some mistakes along the way (like sewing the whole thing closed, but inside-out, on accident). And since I didn't like the plastic album that was supposed to go inside, I tweaked the shape to fit a paper album from a previous RV kit. But yee-haw. I do declare it came together in the end. Thanks Red Velvet Kit Club ladies!

Scully

I just picked up a pack of foam Halloween stickers at the Dollar Store. They needed a tiny bit of spiffing up.

Someone's excited about Halloween.....

Pink Flickr Group

This week I posted two pink photos in the Passionately Pink for the Cure Flickr Group. Yahoo!, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, has agreed to donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for each pink photo added to this pool up to $50,000. My pink photos:

Providence Mall Hide-a-way

Sharing.
My friend Ashley sent me this link yesterday about a few artists who have been living in a make-shift apartment inside the parking garage in the Providence Mall, downtown. Uh, what?

And Hayde down in PR sent me this. But you have to pause the music player on the right before you can hear the video:

Last Scrapper Standing '07 (Round 1)

The artists who co-authored, We Dare You: Scrapbooking Challenges About Real Life (Amazon) run an online competition called "The Last Scrapper Standing". This year I jumped in on the first challenge, or "round 1"--to use 8 different clear overlays on one page or page-spread. I also missed/misunderstood the deadline, but was told I'd still be considered. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the next round, but here is my submission and the link to the LSS Flickr group so that you can peruse the other round 1 submissions as well (if it's your fancy).

Photoshopping Blue Octopi

Last night I attended an PS Elements lecture at the Learning Connection in Providence. Learned a few things--mostly shortcuts and nothing good about color or lighting. But I'm determined to learn. I'm primarily trying to figure out how to add corner shadows or create the edging look that comes with Holga toy camera (or pinhole camera). Not there yet. Playing around today. Here's the original photo:
