Catching up ...January 2010

The closing on our new home is scheduled for Monday morning, and I can't seem to find any loose ends that need tying up.  This nervous butt needs to get out of the house.

In the meantime, I thought I'd post a few photos.  Since my late camera's demise, I still try to snap photos here and there, but care less about how they come out.  The camera breaking at a time when we're pinching pennies may have been a good thing.  These pics of January are perfect just as they are.

1/1/11 - For the New Year, we started off in Florida with my parents.

1/1/11 - New Years Eve.  Yes, my parents can party.

 

 And if you have too much fun, you may accidentally break your glow necklace.  If it explodes all over your parents' new car, do not fret.  (Your parents are pretty cool). Plus, you will find out the next day that glow juice loses its glow and will disappear.

   

1/12/11 - We came home to Providence to find snow and then more snow.

 Snow snow snow.

 1/15/11 - Mid-January we visited with Chris' parents and grandma, and had another Christmas!  Such a great time, including a trip to a little market in Brooklyn.

 

1/21/11 - Then, of course, more snow.

 1/29/11 - At the end of January we fell in love with a house.  

Thus ends this brief overview of the tale that is January of 2011.

A few nights ago, after the winter storm, our sky turned pink and lavender. Unlike our normal sunsets, the light was reflected (by the snow) onto everything, intensifying the color. I saw the sky change while in our front room & had to rush to find the camera before it passed. At work the next day, a co-worker said she had done the same (little RI!). These photos don't capture the color perfectly, but they're close. And they're entirely untouched.

First Snow

These last months have been flying by. When that happens, I know I'm too busy or that I need to stop pushing myself so hard. I'm exhausted when I get home and crashing earlier and earlier. this is not working! Somehow it's December and I'm sure 'tomorrow' it'll be over. Anyway.
Above = our first snow, last Saturday night/Sunday morning. We had just picked up our giganto xmas tree...waking up to our first snow fall the following day? Good timing. Before I even had a chance to post these photo of our snow dust, we were dumped on this morning. And this, of course, called for the spontaneous singing of snow-themed songs. ...Until I get in the car and realize I need to drive all the way to Woonsocket. And I have to do it every day we receive these gifts of snow dumps.

Beaver Tail Coves

Our friend Elizabeth took us down to Beaver Tail state park on Jamestown Island this past Saturday. As long as you're willing to climb, within the rocks, you can find amazing, isolated coves and beaches, tucked along the the south-most coastline. We lucked out with amazing weather and only stumbled onto one nude beach.In general, I'm not a fan of beaches. This is due to the fact that I'm not that interested in sun tanning or skin cancer or getting wrinkles before they appear naturally. I'm also not a fan of big groups of people and screaming kids. Since beaches often include a combination of the above, I'd usually rather be somewhere else. But, when beaches are not full of trucked-in sand and are somewhat remote, then, the locale can be an enjoyable place to relax. The next two pictures below are of the beach where we camped out and went swimming.I left this beach wanting to go back. Soon. The beach had everything I could possibly want--most importantly, peace, quiet, clear water, and a gorgeous coastline. Before heading home, and near the end of the day, we found a beach in a 2nd, nearby state park. No climbing required, and a perfect place to take our parents, the next time they come visit.

Garden on the Deck: IT'S SO ALIVE!!!

I'm gone for what...4 days. And what happens? All hell breaks loose on the deck. The giant tomatoes turn red, the sungellas turn orange, the first jalapeno appeared, and the basil completely replenished itself. It's crazy I tell ya. Just crazy.
